Causes of Dry Hair

Before treating your dry hair, you should first understand how you got it first. Dry hair happens when, for much obvious reasons, your hair is not getting the right amount of moisture. When moisture is absent from your hair, its natural sheen gets reduced, making it appear frizzy, dull and lifeless. Dry hair do not only affect adult men and women. It can affect any age.

Having the luster and sheer are 2 components of a health hair. Each hair strand on your head is composed of 3 layers. A healthy hair consist of the outer layer that protects that next two layers. The outer layer has natural oils that makes the hair shiny and reflect light. For dry hair, the outer layer is damaged, which makes it appear unhealthy, dull and dry.

Unfortunately there is no fixed cause of why dry hair occurs. There are a variety of factors that contributes to dry hair, which includes how you take care of your hair daily, your health, environmental conditions and even heredity. As with environmental conditions, this include frequent swimming in chlorinated water, too much sun exposure and living in a dry and hot climate. How you wash your hair also affects dry hair, too. If you use shampoos and conditioners with harsh chemicals, having your hair go through frequent chemical treatments, blow-drying, using electric straighteners or irons will also make your hair dry. There are also some cases in which a certain underlying condition also brings dry hair. Some of these body illnesses include anorexia nervosa, hypothyroidism, hypoparathyroidism, and Menkes kinky hair disease.

You can still treat your hair with a couple of treatments you can use at home. If you can’t avoid the things that contribute to dry hair, these home remedies will help bring back the sheer and luster that your hair had before.

Want to get that glossy, shiny hair? Massage your hair with a small amount of butter. Massage it evenly through your hair and scalp, cover it all with a shower cap for at least thirty minutes. Once done, wash it away with your usual favorite shampoo as this will rinse all the butter away from the hair.

Grab one avocado, remove the pit and mash it up with a single egg. Mix it well and apply it onto wet hair. You can adjust the amount of avocado and egg based on the length and thickness of your hair. Avocados are filled with essential fatty acids, vitamins and minerals that are proven to aid in restoring the luster of the hair. Leave the mixture on the hair for around 20 minutes, then rinse away the mixture a couple of times. If you are going to use this method, do this at least once every month in order to achieve that healthy hair.

Olive Oil

Use olive oil as a way to condition your hair back to its natural look. All you need to do is warm up half a cup of olive oil. Make sure that you do not boil the oil since you will be rubbing it on the scalp of your hair. Once you have massaged it onto your hair, cover the tresses with a shower cap or plastic bag and then wrap with a towel around it. Leave it on for at least 45 minutes. Afterwards, rinse it away with your favorite shampoo.

“Shampoo Omelet”

This is not some code referring to a product that makes you go wow. This is what it literally means – a shampoo and egg mixture. What you need to do is mix a single egg with an ample amount of shampoo. Apply the mixture onto damaged hair. Leave it on for at least 5 minutes and rinse it off. This treatment is perfect in improving the protein content of your hair.

Apple Cider Vinegar

Doesn’t vinegar make it only worse for dry hair? Before you jump to conclusions, the use of apple cider vinegar has been proven to treat dry hair. It will bring life back into that lifeless hair of yours. Just combine a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar with two tablespoons of olive oil with three egg whites. Mix it well and rub it onto your hair. Cover your hair afterwards with a shower cap and leave it like that for thirty minutes. Shampoo and rinse afterwards.
