Henna is a very popular ingredient for various home remedies, and is quite common for temporary tattoos. However, it’s also excellent for lightening your hair. This is especially true when it’s combined with chamomile as it provides a 1-2 punch when lightening hair. For this remedy you’ll need:

  • Henna powder (available in health food stores)
  • Chamomile (powder is best)
  • Water (boiling)

This recipe is quite simple, but it’s important to follow the directions carefully. Just mix equal ratio of both types of powder. This will form a thick paste after you’ve added them. Let the mixture cool down. Then comb it into hair that’s wet. The next step is to add a shower cap/plastic bag atop your hair. Let the mixture stay in your hair for around one hour.

It’s important to note if your hair is dark then you should let the henna mixture stay in your hair for a maximum of 2 hours. Then take off the plastic bag/shower cap and rinse out the mixture out of your hair.

Cinnamon: Not Just for Baking

Cinnamon  is easily one of the most common ingredients for all sorts of baking. However, besides that you might be surprised to learn that it’s also effective in making hair lighter as well. Besides making your hair lighter it also has a wonderful scent. For this recipe you’ll only need:

  • Cinnamon powder
  • Conditioner

Add cinnamon powder to condition (small handful), then coat your hair’s stands evenly from the top to the bottom. To make sure it’s coated evenly you could comb in the mixture. Then pull up your hair and keep it in place with a clip. You could even use a shower cap if you want your hair to stay in place all night.

Then in the morning it’s rinse time! Make sure to rinse your hair completely and add shampoo. This  recipe is quite safe so you can use it multiple times if you want lighter highlights.

Tea for Tone

Tea can also be an effective way of lightening your hair’s hue. Chamomile tea is especially good for making your hair lighter and creating highlights. For this recipe you’ll need:

  • 1 tea bag
  • Water

The process is quite simple. Just boil the water, then put the tea bag in and steep it for around 10 minutes. After the tea bag has cooled down, use it to rinse your hair. Leave the tea mixture in your hair for around 15 minutes. You should follow this recipe 2-3 times prior to shampooing/rinsing in order to get the  most power when lightening your hair.

Just Vinegar

This is a basic yet effective method. All you have to do is rinse your hair using water and vinegar in order to lighten it. It’s important to note that it will take some time to get the results you want. Use a 1:6 ratio of vinegar and water, then rinse your hair with the mixture. Let it stay in your hair for a minimum of 15 minutes. The best type of vinegar is apple cider vinegar for this recipe.
