When we hear the word “mask” we tend to think of ones for faces, whether it’s for dry or oily skin, or for treating other skin issues. However, there are also many effective hair masks you can make. They’re great for adding back important vitamins, minerals, and enzymes to your locks. In terms of hair products we often focus on the basic features of washing or conditioning hair. However, a key issue is that hair products often remove important nutrients that are required for hair to be healthy and manageable. Fortunately there are many great hair masks to use.
Go Bananas for This Recipe
You probably already know that bananas are healthy due to the Vitamin B, potassium, and other vitamins and minerals. However, would you ever put it in your hair? You might be surprised to learn that you can use the fruit with olive oil to make a great hair mask.
Here’s what you do. Mix 1 banana with 1 tablespoon olive oil. Mash it up well until you’ve formed a puree. The texture should be similar to a smoothie, so there won’t be bits of banana in your hair afterwards.
Next, massage the masks into your hair/scalp. Let it set for half an hour. Then use water to rinse out the banana/oil mixture completely. Finally, shampoo as you normally do.
Triple Ingredients for One Great Mask
This particular hair mask doesn’t include one or two ingredients, but three. Those ingredients are yogurt, honey, and olive oil. You might be especially surprised about adding honey to your hair. It’s sticky and messy, right? However, that’s one of the reasons the recipe includes 2 other ingredients, to make it more practical. For this remedy you’ll need:
- 1 teaspoon olive oil
- 1 tablespoon honey
- ¼ cup of yogurt
Here’s what you’ll need to do. First, mix up all of the ingredients very well. Then add the blend to hair that’s damp. Next, let it set on your hair/scalp for 15-20 minutes. You’re almost there! Rinse out the mixture, then let it dry as you normally would. This is a basic yet effective hair mask that can effectively treat your hair and add some life back to your locks.
Two Oval Things
This is an interesting recipe partly because it includes two oval ingredients. Those ingredients are the tropical fruit avocado and an egg. It shouldn’t be surprising that this is a healthy recipe as it includes ingredients that are healthy when you include them in your diet.
The egg is quite effective because an egg includes 40 types of proteins. Adding the avocado will help to double-down on the nutrients that are added to the hair mask. This is an excellent mask if you want your hair to be moisturized and shinier. The only ingredients you’ll need are:
- ½ avocado fruit
- 2 egg whites
First, mix up the two ingredients well. Then add it to wet/dry hair and allow the mixture to set in the hair for 15-20 minutes. Finally, rinse out the blend and wash your hair. This is a very easy and basic home remedy for a hair mask, but can certainly provide excellent results that you’ll be pleased with.
Another Sweet Mask
You can also use honey with pumpkin to make a hair mask. Pumpkins are high in Vitamins A/C, as well as zinc and potassium.
Just combine 1-2 tablespoons honey, and 1 cup pumpkin puree. Put as much as you’re able to on your hair/scalp. You could use plastic wrap to put over your hair or put a shower cat on it. It will keep the mask atop your hair. Let it set for 15 or more minutes, then use water to rinse.
These are some of the great masks that you can add to your hair. It turns out that masks aren’t just for faces, but also for the top of your head.
