Have you ever wondered why you or someone you know gets tanned so easily? What’s more, they have this dark spots grouped together in a certain area of their skin? Most people think this is a normal occurrence, which is actually true. Having freckles is natural and is not considered life threatening. Even if the appearance of freckles does seem very annoying and want to get rid of it, it is not a sign that the body is experiencing some other health issues.
Freckles are simply triggered when a part of the skin is exposed to sunlight. The UV radiation of the sun causes the melanocytes to produce more melanin, which is the reason that freckles appear or several dark spots appear in certain areas.
But freckles are not permanent since you can treat them with your own remedy that you make at the comfort of your home. The following treatments will give you visible and long lasting results. Most of it do not have side effects. However, you need to test a spot on the back of your hand first before applying it on the freckles. This will give you an idea whether or not there are certain ingredients that you are allergic to.
Sour Cream or Sour Milk
Both sour cream and sour cream have the lactic acid, a component that lightens the skin by hampering the tyrosinase enzyme’s production, which is the sole cause of over pigmentation.
If you use sour milk, you only need to wash your face using it. Leave sour milk on face for a couple of minutes after washing, then rinse it with warm water. You repeat this process for at least three times per day.
As with sour cream, apply it directly on the freckled area of the skin. Leave sour cream on for twenty minutes. Instead of rinsing it, wipe away the cream with soft facial tissues or towel. Pat it dry then apply the area with moisturizer. On top of moisturizer, apply sunscreen. Repeat this process once per day continued for a week. In the succeeding week, reduce the times to twice per week. This is only applicable if the freckles shows improvement of fading. Continue this process for a few months until freckles are completely gone. You can also use yogurt as an alternative to sour cream.
Lemon juice contains citric acid, a natural agent known for its bleaching properties. For those who have sensitive skin, you need to dilute lemon juice with water or you can mix it with yogurt. You should never go out into the heat of the sun for at least 30 minutes from applying any treatments that contains lemon juice. You can use other fruits that contains citric acid such as oranges, tomato, grape, and lime.
There are three methods you can use with lemon.
First is by using lemon with salt and honey. While lemon is capable of bleaching the skin, the salt exfoliates in removing the dead skin cells while honey moisturizes it.
Gather a tablespoon lemon juice that is freshly squeezed, a tablespoon honey and pinch of salt. Mix them well until it forms a paste-like consistency. Apply the mixture directly onto freckles. Make sure that you avoid the eyes. Leave the mixture on for a maximum of twenty minutes, then wash it off with water. Repeat this process daily.
The second method is by mixing lemon juice with yogurt. Prepare half a cup of yogurt and mix in 2 tablespoon lemon juice. Apply the mixture directly on the skin and leave it on for 20 minutes. Rinse it with water. Pat it dry with soft towel then apply moisturizer. This is to be repeated daily.
The last method is by combining sugar and lemon. Take half a slice of lemon and sprinkle its exposed area with half a teaspoon sugar. Scrub it on the freckled skin for a maximum of 3 minutes. Rinse it afterwards with water then repeat this process for twice a week until freckles is treated.
Buttermilk contains natural bleaching agents and lactic acid, which makes it a natural skin peel. Aside from applying the different buttermilk methods below, you should also drink buttermilk daily to speed up the treatment of freckles.
First method is by using plain buttermilk. Dab the cotton ball directly on buttermilk and apply it on the affected area. Let the buttermilk dry up on the skin and leave it on for 15 minutes. Rinse it with warm water and pat it dry. Repeat this process twice a day.
Next is by using buttermilk with cheesecloth. Get a cheesecloth that has several layers. Cut in the sheet holes where you place for your eyes, mouth and nose. Wash face with water and mild soap, leaving it wet. Dip cheesecloth into buttermilk and apply it directly on the face. Make sure not to wring it. Let the cheesecloth dry up on your skin for seven minutes. Soak it again and repeat the process four times. Do this routine once per week.
Third method is by mixing potato with buttermilk. Prepare potato by slicing it into rounds. Soak one slice into the buttermilk and leave it there for 15 minutes. Rub the slice onto skin for five minutes. Let it dry on your skin and rinse it off afterwards with cool water. Repeat this process for 3 times per week.
Fourth method is by mixing buttermilk with lemon juice. Gather a tablespoon of buttermilk and a tablespoon of lemon juice. Mix these two ingredients well. Apply it onto skin and leave it there for fifteen minutes. Wash off face afterwards with warm water. Repeat this process once per day.
Last method is using buttermilk with oatmeal. Mix powdered oatmeal with buttermilk until it forms a paste. Apply the paste onto affected area and leave it on between 30 to 45 minutes. Rinse your face afterwards with cool water. Repeat this process once per day.
